Matt Somerville from Beekind Hives will be leading a course in natural log beehive contruction, followed by a talk on natural Beekeeping at the Black Barn, Blackborough EX15 2HP, on Saturday 28th March 2020.
This course will be geared towards Arboricultural professionals, with the emphasis being to get as many natural beehives made as possible over the coming months and years.
We have been making Beehive Gouges at the Windy Smithy for Matt for some years now, and you will have a chance to use and buy one of these tools.
There is a bit of a crisis in the bee world, largely due to ongoing loss of habitat and the use of neonicotinoid pesticides by our farming neighbours, which may well be resumed after Brexit.
Price: £200, which includes all materials, lunches etc and an evening meal on Saturday.
For those wishing to camp, that is also included in the price.
There is a log hive on site and we should be able to observe the colony which is a very different experience to the lifting of frames in a conventional hive.
The talk in the evening will be open for all interested parties.
